Going Outs Chaperones

Guidelines for our Going Out Adult Chaperones:
 
** If you will be driving in a privately owned vehicle, plan on providing the office with your current driver’s license and insurance verification prior to the Going Out.
 
** Siblings are not to accompany the Going Out groups. Please make arrangements for child care.
 
** Arrive by 9 a.m., check in at the office and then park near the West Door in the parking lot. The children will join you when they are ready to depart. 
 
** Do not interfere with what the children are doing. Going Outs are designed in part to help the children learn how to function ‘out’ in society. If they make a mistake, let them figure it out and fix it themselves. Please allow for natural consequences as far as is possible, without endangering the health and safety of the group. 
 
** Research and information gathering should be handled exclusively by the children. In response to direct questions, encourage them to work through the process of acquiring their own answers. Please try to ‘hold back’ and let the children make their own discoveries. 
 
** Let the children handle and be responsible for all money, directions and food. Do not purchase any food or souvenirs for the children. 
 
** If you observe inappropriate behavior, you may discreetly remind the children of the established behavioral expectations during the Going Out. Share your observations with the directress upon your return.
 
** Plan on returning to the school between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. Please do not be late, as this has the potential to negatively affect carpool dismissal.
 
** Children must return to the classroom and share their preliminary impressions of the trip with their directress before they leave for the day. Once he or she has finished checking in, your child will be released to you.
