There may be situations where the Head of School may decide to close the school on an emergency basis.  Such closings, while rare, are sometimes necessary due to extenuating circumstances.

Criteria for closing may include but are not limited to:

•  Severe Weather, including snow, ice or extremely dangerous cold
•  Unsafe traveling conditions to due snow, ice or other severe weather factors
•  Access to adequate utilities, including electric, heat and water
•  Emergencies involving civil disturbances or community safety

The following procedures are in place to notify the school community in the event of an emergency closing:

1)      Designated administrative staff will initiate Constant Contact emergency email notifying the parent body of the closing and the reasons for such.

2)      Designated administrative staff will update the “Parents” page of the Joliet Montessori School website to reflect the closed status, to include why.

3)      Designated administrative staff will notify WJOL 1340 AM, Joliet local radio.

4)      Designated administrative staff will notify the “ Emergency Closing Center ” http://www.emergencyclosingcenter.com/ecc/home.jsp.

5)      When appropriate, the administrative staff will notify emergency personnel of the school’s closing.
