At JMS, we believe that this not only a time for absorbing and acquiring mental intelligence capabilities, but also for addressing physical interests and capabilities, as well. It is, therefore, an ideal time to begin healthy habits for an active, well rounded lifestyle.
Our extra curricular classes are designed to supplement the Montessori curriculum by providing an opportunity for the children to enroll in classes that explore their world through movement and physical discipline. At the same time our program allows parents the peace of mind and convenience of having the benefits of their classes within their school community. We have offered classes in music, science, yoga, drama and Spanish. We are open to exploring additional partnerships in the sporting arena as well.
Extra Curricular activities may vary from semester to semester, depending on instructor availability and scheduling. Registration forms can be found here.
Clubs
The Gardening Club is an opportunity for students to learn about the outdoor environment and do gardening work. This gives the children a new appreciation of their environment and the necessary plant care that is involved.
The Chess Club offers students the chance to learn basic moves and strategies and have the opportunity to play other children of similar skill level.
The Drama Club is very involved in the presentation of our Spring Event Children's Play.
Classes
Classes offered have included:
Spirited Starts After School Music Program. This is a beginner instrumental program for children ages five through thirteen. Children can select from either the string or the wind section based on their age and their interest. The second alternative, which can certainly be taken with Spirited Starts, is Kindermusik with Jean. This program provides children with several options to choose from.
The Young Scientist Class is for students ages three and four. Students have the opportunity to practice their observation skills, see cause and effect in action and become excited about science through hands on opportunities. Basic science concepts are also introduced.
The Yoga Class is offered in six week sessions for the full day primary, elementary and adolescent students. Technique and basic form are introduced and perfected, helping students establish balance.
Drama Classes. These students will practice vocalization, learn stage direction and theater customs, do scene work, play theater games and do improvisation.
Those students interested in learning a second language may consider taking Elementary Spanish. If your child has a Spanish background, they may consider the Advanced Spanish Class.
Further detail on each of these classes and programs are available through the JMS office.
We are continually searching for ways to enrich the lives of our children. If you have a skill set you would like to share, please contact the office at (815) 741-4180.
